"Capitaine, Capitaine" 12"x12" Limited Edition Mardi Gras Print
This is a limited run of fine art giclee prints of my 2021 Mardi Gras "Capitaine, Capitaine" wycinanki papercutting. There are only 50 prints in this exclusive run. The prints are 12x12”, printed on matte acid-free paper. I made a Cajun/Creole Mardi Gras papercutting every year and make limited runs of prints of each one, so you can collect them all! This one depicts the Capitaine (captain) who leads the Courir de Mardi Gras (Mardi Gras run). Around the border are lyrics from the Balfa Brothers song “La Danse de Mardi Gras” which is heard all around SW Louisiana when Mardi Gras is approaching. Each print is numbered and signed by the artist. Wycinanki (vee-chee-non-key) is the Polish folk art of papercutting. I'm an artist of Polish descent living and working in SW Louisiana. Intricate designs are created by cutting paper with scissors and/or sheep shears. I try to maintain a traditional Polish style even when depicting Louisiana life and traditions in my work.
