La Chanson de Mardi Gras Limited Edition Giclee Print
This is a limited edition giclée art print of my “La Chanson de Mardi Gras” papercutting, printed with archival ink on acid free archival paper. This design was originally cut out of paper with scissors in the Polish folk art tradition of "wycinanki," and this is a fine reproduction of that piece. This print is available in a limited run of 50. All prints are numbered and signed by the artist. Where I live in SW Louisiana, the Mardi Gras Courir is a vibrant local tradition. The costumes worn are made of colorful cloth and towering hats, designed to poke fun at the upper classes as per the French medieval tradition from which Cajun Mardi Gras celebrations are derived. The "courir" (run) goes from house to house begging for ingredients of a gumbo (which includes chasing a chicken, as depicted in my 2018 Mardi Gras print). There are ample hijinks, and constant music and dancing. This piece depicts cheerful Mardi Gras musicians, playing instruments traditional in Cajun music: the fiddle, guitar, accordion, and triangle.
